Despite the harsh regulations enforced on the clubbing scene, Paris has always been perceived as a fertile ground for electronic music. Take the filter house from the late 90s’ with artists like Daft Punk or Ettienne De Crecy, the strong electro movement led Vitalic and, of course, the eclectic side of techno explored by Laurent Garnier for the last 30 years or so.

Chris Carrier has brought his contribution on the French house & techno underground since the early nineties. He experimented with different styles and genres as a DJ at illegal rave parties around Paris, and this hunger for diversity translated over years in quite an impressive record collection. Yet the record selector is just a side of his complex musical personality: Robsoul, Apollonia, Adult Only or Hold Youth are just a few record labels that have released his productions, with the Chris Carrier name or under his more minimal alias: Monsieur Georget. He also started to explore the depths of the electronic underground with a fresh record label: Les Disques De La Jungle, with no less that 9 releases to date (check its bandcamp page here).

We invited Chris to pinpoint a few records from his precious record collection, to reveal a bit of his vinyl alter ego, which we usually don’t have the chance to see it from the dance floor. Enjoy!

A second hand dig I’m most proud of

Justin David is an artist who made only a few records. I had some of his releases on Futur Monument that I had bought at Fat Cat when he released, and I wanted to complete my collection last month. Amazing music.

The record I’d love to see it repressed

I’m a huge fan of John Tejada – especially this older one.

The label I’d buy all their releases without even listening to them

Tone Dropout: there is literally always a track from this label that I play!

The record artwork that blows my mind every time I look at it

I really like the painting here by Salvador DalI of women forming a skull.

The record that triggers childhood memories

I’ve heard this one over 10,000 times throughout my childhood and later I bought it from Amoeba in San Francisco, the area the band come from. Symbolic!

The record shop I would spend my whole savings in

Synchrophone is in my neighborhood, I guess I come across as a vinyl maniac when I’m in there!

The record that never leaves my DJ bag

This one was a present from a good friend, my godfather of electronic music. He played it from 1990, I took the relay in 2002 and I took good care of it.

Last record I checked its price on discogs

Sadly nobody is selling it. If you’re reading this and you are… get in touch!

Last record I bought for my home listening pleasure

Jazz funk fusion, a new sound from UK like Kamaal Williams. Great broken beat and contemporary Jazz.

The record closest to my heart from my entire collection

A big classic from my friend Chez Damier. When I bought this one in 1993 it was my first house music record. Before that, I listened to techno only but that soon changed. 17 years later I meet him in person and we did The Gathering – In My System together.
