Each and every underground scene in Europe and beyond needs an artist like Terence :Terry: Following his passion of digging rare cuts and under rated gems through crates filled with second hand records, Terry has started to play music in Paris in the early 2000s, in legendary clubs like Rex Club or Batofar. It was a matter of time, given his selector skills, until he started to be part of lineups for Fabric London, DC10 Ibiza or Panorama Bar.
A curator by nature, Terry launched his own label in 2012 under the La Vie En Rose name. It goes without saying that he is the perfect fit for our Vinyl Alter Ego series, a challenge that would sound as an easy task for a record selector like him, yet proved dfficult given his huge record collection and his long history on the scene. Dive into his recommendations and make sure you’ll be on the dancefloor next time you’ll see a party with Terence :Terry: as part of the lineup.
Prodige Studio Lab is also Terence’s baby: a production and mix & master studio. He is also sharing his knowledge through production masterclasses and courses, for beginners as well as more experienced producers. You can check the program here
A second hand dig I’m most proud of
Various – Seven Hills Presents Nations Of Noise 91 – 93
Lockgroove Piano Tilt (huge memory when we were raving in Paris). This record feels like a switch flipping in our minds, as if time slows down, minutes stretch, and the space-time continuum shifts. A sonic experience that transports us elsewhere.
The record I’d love to see it repressed
Records that blew my mind back then, when my mentors—Pacman, Sonic, and Armand—synthesized those sounds we were listening to, brought in by Francesco Farfa and some Italians of that vibe.
The label I’d buy all their releases without even listening to them
2020 Vision / Transmat / Nu Groove / Warp / KMS records
The record artwork that blows my mind every time I look at it
Steely Dan – Can’t Buy A Thrill
The record that triggers childhood memories
Michel Berger, a key French singer from that special period in France, when they were trying to repeat what was going on in the USA. It was the perfect Rock Radio FM, but in a French way what we called the Soft Rock.
The record shop I would spend my whole savings in
Gramophone in Chicago , or any cool second hands records shop
One record from my early DJ career that I still play today
WARP FACTOR 3 – JAMMIN’ SOUL (DUB THE JAM)
The record that never leaves my DJ bag
Last record I checked its price on discogs
Bolaji – Massive Material / Run 4 Cover
One record that sounded way ahead of its time when it was released.
Model 500 DeepSpace – totally visonary & futuristic, still a key album for me and for sure for the next generation.
Last record I bought for my home listening pleasure
Ultramagnetic MC’s – Critical Beatdown: totally my vibe of Hip hop when i was dancing hip hop before raving, and yes, found it back in Tokyo.
The record closest to my heart from my entire collection
So many but I will go with this one: Hawke – 3 Nudes In A Purple Garden
The record that perfectly captures the Detroit vibe
or
The non dancefloor record that proved to be perfect for clubs, also!
A classic… so deep but yes, it was also a record for clubs. An incredible dub with that typical bassline from the Murkboys!
A now defunct record label from which you luckily own a few records
A Belgium record label from my youth, when I was starting to rave…
One record that’s so good, you even bought a copy to keep it in mint condition
I will buy it 5 more times if it’s possible…
