After a long night spent at BURN‘s Dance Garden stage with Kosta, Eats Everything and Sneak dancing our arses off, we decided to spend a lazy afternoon chatting about music with 4 of the 16 BURN Residency finalists, who got lucky enough to showcase their mixing skills at Electric Castle this year. They shared the decks with BOg, Alex Preda, Agents Of Time and Mind Against, each contestant making their best to entertain the festival crowd in their own unique way, from hard techno to deep house, from minimal to jackin house.
Taking full advantage of the sunny Sunday afternoon, before the gigs, we turned on our recorder and started to dig deep into the finalists’ musical universes. From what track would they play to their grandma to the track they play to close a beach party, here’s what we came up with :)
Thomas Skjaerstad (Norway)
The track you would play for closing a party on the beach
It actually depends on the party: if it’s a laid back chilled beach vibe, I would end up with Avgustin – Price Of Life, but if it would more energy involved in the party, I would close it with Rene Amesz – Coriander.
Your secret weapon track that would turn the dance floor wild?
I have tons but 2 really punchy tracks that come into my mind right now are:
The last track you would play if you would warmup for carl cox

The non electronic album you keep listening in the last months.
That’s a hard one as I came from blues, jazz and brass so I have to go deep and see the album I will always play… I think Oscar Peterson – Night Train
The track you would play to your grandmother so she can understand techno music
First I stopped to Ninetoes – Bonita for the rhythms and melodies she can refer to but then I was thinking of my own productions so I can explain her easily how I made that beat or that kick.
Deeplomatik (Poland)
The track you would play for closing a party on the beach.
A really soulful, uptempo and energetic track with nice baseline: Denis Ferrer remix for Fish Go Deep
Your secret weapon track that would turn the dance floor wild?
My secret weapon tracks are usually my own productions, especially those unreleased ones… but for now I propose Better House
The last track you would play if you would warmup for Seth Troxler
Probably I would go for my remix for the classical Night Of The Jaguar, a slower more deep housey version of the track I made a few years ago, still keeping the underground vibe of the original, available for free download.
The non electronic album you keep listening
This is easy for me: George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic – Mothership Connection – some funk, some soul, a real inspiration for me and my music.

Anton Bykov (Ukraine)

Бумбокс – Family Business

I would go for my own track, Second Monday
adambence (Hungary)
The track you would play for closing a party on the beach
I think I will go with my own track, Butterfly, still to be released so you can’t find it online for now. It’s a special track for me, produced when I broke up with my girlfriend, so the track is pretty hard but it has these soft synths

Again one of my tracks: Pay The Ghost, really underground, a hard techno beat
The last track you would play if you would warmup for Carl Cox
The non electronic album you keep listening in the last months
I am pretty attracted to movie soundtracks, like Gladiator
The track you would play to your grandmother so she can understand techno music
I’ll play a Butch track, that’s the definition of techno for me
