The word “picky” is the least you can say about me when choosing a record for my vinyl collection. For that matter, I onw only records that have the power to putting me in a certain state of mind (pretty subjective, I know). And I can proudly say that Vakula’s A Voyage To Arcturus, released in 2014 at his own Leleka label is one of them. It’s a rare combination of ambient, dub, prog and sci fi disco that had often left me in awe while watching the grey November cloud blankets flying over my hometown. Even if I discovered Vakula through his club oriented tracks released at Dekmantel, it’s his other side of artistry that made me fall in love with his music.

So this is why this tiny selection made for Half Is Enough by the Ukrainian artist is something truly special. Vakula has just released a new EP for Oath, bearing his usual genre crossing signature sound. Times can be listened and ordered here

I think I’ve already found my music. Over the years of exploring sound and music, while creating my own sonic language, I’ve begun to understand other people’s art more and more clearly, because in a certain sense, people connected to sound enter a kind of shared field from which we draw ideas. But there are those who exist beyond these fields — higher, above sea level. And personally, for me, the music of these musicians is the very state I would like to reflect in my own work, the way white clothing reflects light.
