Whatever comes out from Astral Industries’ zen laboratories is a magical trip you don’t wanna miss. First you get hit by the immersive artwork, a heavily textured underwater world of drawn patterns inhabited by peaceful steampunk divers. The music comes to fill in the visual blanks with ambient flows. You get a bit of leftfield, a bit of dub techno and almost every time some twisted field recordings. Nevertheless, if you’re sometimes into beatless electronic journeys, Astral Industries is a must for your record collection.

Which brings us to Chi Factory’s latest release on Astral: The Mantra Recordings. The EP has a totally unexpected connection with Robert Lax, an American poet who lived in Atmos, Greece, for the last four decades of his life. A dedication to the poet’s writings, capturing the ambient sounds of his sunny retreat, The Mantra Recordings guided our senses deep inside our bodies, at the same time grounding ourselves into the material world: a bit of leftfield, a bit of dub techno and almost every time some twisted field recordings, just like we said. A hybrid Hindu deity is featured on the record’s cover, textured into organic hand drawn lines.
