As some of you are doing this already for the past 15 years, the festival season starts with our all time favourite one: Sunwaves Festival, the gathering that evolved so nice from a boutique festival caressed by the April May cold breeze of the Black Sea into a huge event that stretches now over more than 1 week of non-stop house & techno. Even if some may say that Sunwaves Festival has lost its intimate feel and the vibe of friends only gathering, there’s still room for discovering record selectors ready to dance our brains off. So, whenever you want to take a break from what the headliners have prepared for us, save some energy for the lesser known acts. These artists are the ones that are still staying true to the underground values, ready to imprint some long lasting memories into the sandy beaches of Sunwaves Festival. In no particular order, here’s a short list of artists we enjoy right now! Don’t forget to follow our Sounds Of Sunwaves playlist here, filled with tracks played at previous SW editions!

Rainer

The mastermind behind the Mallorca based In Therapy Records, part of the Sunrise Booking agency and a regular at Sunwaves for the past couple of years, Rainer brings together warm minimal house vibes and touches of acid and electro for an eclectic journey. Not to be missed on Saturday the 4th of May (nighttime) at Stage 4

Zya

Zya is a pretty fresh addition to Bucharest’s nightscapes, playing mainly at Club Guesthouse, while at the same time making a strong debut last year at Sunwaves. Her record bag is full of underrated gems, so expect the unexpected on the 7th of May at Stage 4.

Automatic Writing

3 French selectors under one name making their debut at Sunwaves Festival? This should be pretty interesting, giving the fact that Automatic Writing are running the eponymous record label that serves so damn well Paris’ electronic underground for the past couple of years. Sunday morning, the 5th of May, Stage 4

Julian

A residency at Club Guesthouse, his own record label to showcase his productions… Need we say more? Be sure to catch Julian opening set for Arpiar Soundsystem, on Friday night at Stage 3
